BIOME
Location: Although all penguin species are native to the Southern Hemisphere, they are not found only in cold climates, such as Antarctica. Only a few species of penguin live so far south. Several species are found in the temperate zone, and one species, the Galápagos penguin, lives near the equator.
Average Temperature: Most Penguins like to live in cols environments. Their average temperature is around 20 degrees Fahrenheit to -50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Average Precipitation & Types: The average precipitation rate of where most penguins live is about 6.5 inches of rain. They usually like to stay in cold weather so they do get some rain. Other penguins that stay in warmer environments dont get as much rain as these penguins do.
Soil Type: Penguins usually have permafrost soil. their soil is usually frozen because they live in such cold environments. Permafrost is a thick subsurface layer of soil that remains frozen throughout the year.
Animals: Whales, Seals, Giant petrel, Killer Whale
Plants: Algae, Mosses, Liverworts and even fungi
Overall Description- Tundra is the coldest of all the biomes. Tundra comes from the Finnish word tunturi, meaning treeless plain. It is noted for its frost-molded landscapes, extremely low temperatures, little precipitation, poor nutrients, and short growing seasons.
